Troubleshooting
Things go wrong? Here's the fixes for the usual suspects.
Scribe can't find my AddOns folder
Scribe auto-detects the default path. If it can't:
- Make sure ESO is installed and has been launched at least once | that's what creates the AddOns folder
- Check the default path:
- Windows:
C:\Users\You\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns - macOS:
~/Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/AddOns - Linux (Proton): Somewhere inside
steamapps/compatdata/.../pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/AddOns
- Windows:
- Set it manually in settings
Addon installed but not showing up in ESO
- Check the "Installed" tab in Scribe | is it actually there?
- Verify the files landed in the right AddOns folder
- Some addons need dependencies. Check if any are listed as missing
- Restart ESO completely | it won't pick up addon changes while running
Addon update fails
- Check your connection
- The addon source might be down temporarily | try again in a bit
- If it keeps failing, uninstall and reinstall the addon
- Still broken? File an issue with the addon name and the error
Scribe won't open on macOS
Gatekeeper blocks unsigned apps. Get past it:
- Right-click (or Control-click) Scribe
- Pick "Open"
- Click "Open" in the dialog
- One-time thing, won't ask again
Windows SmartScreen warning
Scribe isn't code-signed with a Microsoft cert so Windows throws a "protected your PC" warning:
- Click "More info"
- Click "Run anyway"
Normal for indie open-source software. You can cross-check the download on GitHub Releases.
